New feature: upgraded search engine

Colibo has launched an upgrade of their search engine so that you can find everything in one place. The upgrade is called Elastic Search, which is an upgrade from the former search engine. The new search engine is both faster and smarter than its predecessor. In addition to a new design, there is a range of new features in the search engine, which you can read more about in this article.

Elastic search

The new search engine in Colibo is based on the modern search engine Elastic search. The search module works from the principle that there are information and persons which are closer to the user than other things, and therefore they are more relevant. This means that a specialized routine emphasizes aspects such as how close the searched person is placed in the organisation, and how many workgroups you share.

Search results become more relevant for the individual

In addition to the results being estimated by the search engine, the relevance of the search is assessed by:

  • How close the users are placed to each other organizationally. The closer, the more relevant are the results estimated.
  • Workgroups are compared. The more that are common between the searcher and the search result, the more relevant it becomes.
  • Skills are compared. The more that are common between the searcher and the search result, the more relevant it becomes.

Colibo’s search is both regulated by relevance and permissions, which means that the individual user will not see content that he does not have access to. Furthermore, the most relevant search results are marked and divided into categories. It is also possible to limit the search to specific parts of the intranet.

Elastic Search can be used to search in all types of documents and work groups.

Search results highlights

You will get a better overview of your search results with, among other things, the highlight of search words and a view of the best matches independently of the type. The search results are presented in a clear way, no matter where in Colibo the user is. The best matches will be presented on top, while a clear highlight of the search word in the results will give the user an indication of why exactly this result is shown.

Search results in one single view

Search results are now shown in one single view, and if there are many search results, they will be loaded continuously as the user scrolls down.

The search results are presented in a clear way for the user, who can easily see why the search results are relevant to the highlight of the search word. The search results are shown based on how relevant they are for the particular search, while the user can filter on the type of content that he or she seeks – for example a document, a news article or a person.

Search in specific work groups

By default, the search engine will search in the area in which the user is located, eg. a workgroup or 'my department'.

It can be difficult to navigate to the right content if there are many documents on the intranet. It can also be difficult to find the exact document if many documents have similar names or topics. An example may be documents with the title or content: 'economy', 'contract' or 'budget'. There can be many documents called something with 'budget'. Therefore, it is smart that you can navigate closer to the subject, and then search.

As the example shows below, the user is searching in the area in which the user is located. But it is always possible to search the entire intranet by removing the checkbox for 'search only in ...':

Elastic search options search only in

Sort search results

Search results can be filtered for specific parts of Colibo. This is useful if you for example are looking for a budget, which typically gives a lot of search results:
